7th Summit for Space Sustainability
October 22–23, 2025
Centre de Conférences Pierre Mendès France, Paris
Event Summary
The 7th Summit for Space Sustainability, held October 22–23, 2025, in Paris, brought together leaders, experts, and policymakers to address the challenges facing the space industry.
This year’s program focused on practical steps to keep space usable. More than 490 participants, in person and online, joined to discuss how policy, technology, and market design work together. Speakers and panels covered debris mitigation and removal, space traffic coordination, atmospheric reentry impacts, spectrum management, and the economics of sustainability. Sessions also examined dual-use tension points, standards and metrics, and how national initiatives connect to multilateral work at COPUOS and the ITU. Recordings of all sessions are available on the conference website, in Whova, and on Secure World Foundation’s YouTube channel.
Government leaders outlined updates from Europe and beyond, including France’s operational safety framework, ESA’s Zero Debris work, UNOOSA’s capacity-building and SSA expert group, and the European Commission’s efforts to align lifecycle assessment with future regulation. Industry voices showed how operators and service providers embed sustainability into design, operations, and supply chains. Researchers presented new evidence on launch and reentry effects and called for shared data, validated models, and common measurement approaches.
The conference emphasized action. Speakers and panelists provided clear recommendations on designing for end of life, publishing uncertainty and maneuver data, building interoperable SSA services, and aligning public funding with early commercial demand. Speakers stressed inclusion and equity, noting that sustainability succeeds only when all regions can access and benefit from space. The session summaries and key points can support and inform policy decisions, guide program planning, and support responsible operations across the space community.
